Early humans and Sabretooths lived side by side 300,000 years ago

Archaeologists excavating in Germany found Sabretooth Cat remains in the same stratigraphic level as early humans, likely Homo heidelbergensis, dating back 300,000 years.

The team found a young Sabretooth’s teeth and shoulder bone, and estimates the cat to have weighed about 200kg. You would think it would be an unfair match for our distant relatives to come face to teeth with a Sabre, but early humans master the spear a long long time ago. Coincidently around this time as spear points were also found..fancy that.

Anyway, the find has led researchers to believe the cats were around in Europe for much longer than originally thought, and by the time humans got there some 40,000 years ago, we were already masters at protecting ourselves.
