36,500 year old footprints found in Romanian cave

In 1965, researchers found these footprints in a Romanian cave, but dated them to roughly 10,000 – 15,000 years ago. Now new research is suggesting a much older date.Romania_01

The discovery of bear bones just beneath these footprints date back approximately 36,500 years ago, suggesting that these footprints were made around the same time. The footprints have been well preserved after they were made from a sandy mud substance which the prehistoric people walked upon.

According to the footprint sizes, the inhabitants were men, women and children as 51 footprints still remain to be analysed.

These have been suggested as being the oldest Homo sapien footprints in Europe, maybe even the world!
