After the body of a 2,500 year old woman was discovered in 1993, her body was so well preserved in the ice of Russia’s Altai mountains that her tattoos were clearly visible.
Since then, researchers have learned a lot about this ancient “ice princess” and her people. It was evident that she was a woman of great importance and fashion, with cosmetics bags and fabric found with her when discovered. Another interesting item unearthed in her tomb was a small container of cannabis.
It’s been revealed that she suffered from a bone infection called osteomyelitis since she was young, and had bad injuries from a fall, likely from a horse. But she suffered from another disease, breast cancer, as MRI scans recently revealed.
The “ice princess” dealt with the cancer for approximately 5 years, reports say, and it’s likely she resorted to ol’ Mary Jane to deal with the pain.
